ECAC Selects RegattaCentral to Provide Online Rowing Regatta Management, Education and Safety Services
6,700 student-athletes to benefit from online education and safety program for rowing
COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 22, 2005 – RegattaCentral (www.regattacentral.com), North America’s leading regatta management solution for the sport of rowing has reached an agreement with the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), America’s largest collegiate athletic conference, to provide online event management, safety and education solutions for its five rowing regattas including the IRA Collegiate National Championship, and men’s and women’s Eastern Sprints regattas.
Under the agreement, RegattaCentral, a Columbus, Ohio company, will provide ongoing online regatta management services and begin development of a first-of-its-kind safety and education program for over 6,700 student-athletes participating in the New England Rowing Championships, May 1 in Worcester, Mass., ECAC Regatta, May 7 – 8 in Worcester Mass., Eastern Association of Women’s Rowing Colleges Regatta (Women’s Eastern Sprints), May 15 in Camden, New Jersey, Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges Regatta (Men’s Eastern Sprints), May 15 in Worcester, Mass., and the Intercollegiate Rowing Championships (IRA National Championship Regatta), June 2 – 4 in Camden, New Jersey.
“RegattaCentral will provide an easy-to-use, online registration tool for the 150 schools around the U.S. that participate in ECAC regattas every year,” said Gary Caldwell, Director of Rowing for the ECAC. “We expect the program to significantly reduce the time and costs that coaches spend in registering their athletes for ECAC regattas.”
The partnership will also include the development of a pioneer education program in collegiate athletics that, at the point of event registration, will enable student-athletes to learn about the history and rules of the sport as well as provide basic safety instruction.
“Education is an important component of the ECAC,” said Caldwell. “When a student-athlete registers for an event at RegattaCentral we can present them with an interesting history of rowing, access to the sport’s rules, and be assured that they will come to each regatta with a basic understanding of safety considerations of a water-sport.”
The Regatta registration program will be in place in advance of the May 1 New England Rowing Championships in Worcester, Mass, the first ECAC regatta of 2005, while the educational and safety program is under development and expected to be in place for the 2006 season.
