VILLAGE TO VILLAGE SPRING CHALLENGE

on the historic ERIE CANAL.

Race from the Village of Spencerport to the Village of Brockport, NY

(APPROXIMATE DISTANCE - 12 K)

Saturday, May 4, 2013

This regatta is a unique head race for small boats. The Start line is in the Village of Spencerport and the Finish is in the Village of Brockport. The course is approximately 12 kilometers of picturesque landscape on the historic ERIE CANAL.  There is a wide canal path along the entire north bank of the canal for visitors to run, ride or walk along during the race. There are 4 lift bridges associated with the row; one east of the Start line in the warm up area, one midway on the race course and two shortly after the Finish line.  You can glide under theses bridges, but passing would be dangerous.  There are lights hanging under each lift bridge which are impossible to go under so orient your boat as you approach to avoid the lights as you enter and exit the bridges.

PLEASE NOTE: Though boat traffic is very light this time of year, we cannot prevent motorized craft from using the ERIE CANAL. Exercise extreme caution.  Carefully navigate bends, lift bridges, and the occasional parked barges along the canal.

ALWAYS TAKE YOUR TIME APPROACHING, FLOATING UNDER, and EXITING a lift bridge to avoid hitting something.

8:00 a.m. Registration:

VILLAGE OF SPENCERPORT

ALL BOATS MUST CHECK-IN FIRST AT REGISTRATION before unloading. Because the Village to Village Challenge is from Spencerport to Brockport, you will be launching from Spencerport and landing at Brockport. Please unload your boat & rig it in the area assigned for you at CHECK-IN. Volunteers will assist in matching your slings and transport them to Brockport while you are on the course. REGISTRATION will give 2 color coded markers for each boat. Please stick them on the leg of your slings to help keep them sorted out when they are repositioned in Brockport.

SHUTTLE: The next step is to drive your vehicle to Brockport and park in the designated lot. A map will be provided at REGISTRATION upon request. If you are able to arrange your own ride back to Spencerport, please do. If you have room in your vehicle for a bike, you could ride the canal path back to Spencerport and lock your bike at the rack in front of the Canal Museum. (Just don’t forget to stop back in Spencerport following the race to pick-up your bike.)

A volunteer shuttle will be available to car pool you back to Spencerport before the start of the race. Specific shuttle times will be posted on Regatta Central following the REGISTRATION DEADLINE.
