Head of the Cuyahoga

8.25.2020 Announcement:

Dear friends of the Head of the Cuyahoga Regatta,

The primary concern of the Head of the Cuyahoga is the health and safety of all the members of our community - the athletes, volunteers, vendors, spectators, and attendees. Based on the Ohio Department of Public Health and Cuyahoga County Board of Health's recommendations regarding sporting events and large gatherings operating this fall, regrettably, we are cancelling the Head of the Cuyahoga Regatta for September 19, 2020.

Thank you for your support of the HOTC and patience while the LOC worked with state and local authorities to make this decision. We look forward to seeing you at the 2021 Head of the Cuyahoga on Saturday, September 18, 2021. It will be the best one ever!!

The LOC is still working with USRowing, and other fall regattas, to determine the practicality of including a series of virtual events open to ALL clubs. The HOTC LOC is currently working with Strava Racing to allow for a virtual HOTC race course. Details will be forthcoming.

8.15.2020 Update:

Over the summer, the Cleveland Rowing Foundation worked diligently with state and local health officials to monitor the ongoing status of the pandemic and to determine the feasibility of hosting the Head of the Cuyahoga regatta. Unfortunately, the LOC has made the very difficult decision to cancel the regatta, based on the most recent COVID-19 state and nationwide data, to all teams based outside of Cleveland.

The LOC is working closely with the City of Cleveland, local and state health departments and stakeholders to determine if a socially distant on-water event may take place including ONLY singles and cohabitating doubles. The LOC is also working with USRowing, and other fall regattas, to determine the practicality of including a series of virtual events open to ALL clubs.

A decision will be announced on August 20 if such an event may take place. The update regarding the HOTC will be posted on all social media sites and RC.

6.1.2020 Update:

The Cleveland Rowing Foundation plans to make a final decision on hosting the Head of the Cuyahoga Regatta no later than August 15th. Our top priority is to create an event that is safe for competitors, volunteers, and spectators. The LOC is working closely with all appropriate state and local officials, along with health, safety and medical personal at the Ohio Department of Health and local county agencies in developing plans to run a safe outdoor event.
