Head of the Gorge and Tail of the Gorge Regattas
- Oct 22, 2022 To Oct 23, 2022
- Esquimalt Gorge Park
- Victoria, BC (CAN)
- Hosted By: Gorge Narrows Rowing Club
- Sanctioned by RCA and Rowing BC (2022)
These two regattas are an iconic BC event, with a broad range of participants and spectacular viewing opportunities. The Head of the Gorge starts near Victoria's historic Old Town, runs north under three bridges, shoots through the rushing waters of Tillicum Narrows, and finishes at Esquimalt Park, The Tail of the Gorge starts in the beautiful Portage Inlet, and runs south under the Craigflower Bridge, to finish back at Esquimalt Park.
Teams from across BC, Alberta, and the Pacific Northwest use this regatta to mark the end of the season and the transition to winter training, with incredible racing during the day and the hospitality of Victoria in the evening . The Head of the Gorge encourages costumes during the race, and that gives the entire event a festival atmosphere.
For 2022, the University of Victoria, which carried the legacy of this regatta for many years, passed the regatta to Gorge Narrows Rowing Club. This year, the Head and Tail of the Gorge Regatta is focusing on community and bringing together athletes, volunteers and community members to share an appreciation for the gorge waterway and the sport of rowing.
By participating, you are contributing to the mythical story of rowing the Gorge and conquering it. Have fun and enjoy the challenge!
