Village to Village SPRING Challenge

  • Hosted By: Rochester Community inclusive Rowing

NEW THIS YEAR...     The VillagetoVillageChallenge is more than your typical small boat race… the Challenge is a personal challenge. It challenges an individual to row farther than any other regatta. Completing the 12 k course is an achievement in itself. The Challenge will be honoring every 1st, 2nd, and 3rd boat that crosses the Finish no matter how many boats are entered into the event for completing the Challenge.

NEW THIS YEAR...       For those of you who are inclined to row back to  Spencerport following the awards and celebration, you will be happy to know that the ERIE CANAL flows eastward so you can row back to Spencerport with the current at your leasure. Docks will remain in place through Monday, May 5.

Row in the 2014 Village to Village SPRING Challenge on the historic ERIE CANAL in upstate New York...a colorful fun spring time destination. Race from the Village of Spencerport to the Village of Brockport, NY

(APPROXIMATE DISTANCE - 12 K)

Saturday, May 3, 2014

This regatta is a unique head race for small boats. The Start line is in the Village of Spencerport and the Finish is in the Village of Brockport. The course is approximately 12 kilometers of picturesque landscape on the historic ERIE CANAL.  There is a wide canal path along the entire north bank of the canal for visitors to run, ride or walk along during the race. There are 4 lift bridges associated with the row; Union St liftbridge is just east of the Start line which is the staging area, Washington St lift bridge is in Adams Basin, Park Av lift bridge is as you enter Brockport and Main St lift bridge is just past the Finish line. We are hoping the lift bridges will be up while the race is in progress but we can't guarantee it. You can glide under the lift bridges but be aware of the lights hanging under the lift bridges may be impossible to go under so orient your boat as you approach to avoid the lights. They are staggered on either side so be so take care in orienting you boat and duck if the bridge is low.

PLEASE NOTE: Though boat traffic is very light this time of year, we cannot prevent motorized craft from using the ERIE CANAL. Exercise extreme caution.  Carefully navigate bends, lift bridges, and the occasional parked barges along the canal.

7:00 am CHECK-IN: IF YOU ARE USING THE SHUTTLE, please plan on 35-40 minutes to drive to the Welcome Center in Brockport and shuttle back.
