Head of the Colorado

  • Hosted By: Austin Rowing Club
  • 2019 Registered Regatta

The Head of the Colorado is held annually on the last Saturday of October. ARC has been hosting this regatta since the mid-1980's. 2019 marks the 35th Annual PumpkinHead Regatta. This 5,000 meter head race on Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas offers events for the following: junior, collegiate, open, adaptive and masters rowers.

If you are wishing to make an entry in an Adaptive event, please note that registration for Adaptive events will be done through the LOC (Austin Rowing Club) rather than through RegattaCentral. Please contact [email protected] to register.

The 2019 5k course will row through three bridges on Lady Bird Lake. The start line is halfway between the Stevie Ray Vaughn statue at Auditorium Shores and the First Street Bridge. The course travels east through the Congress and I-35 bridges. The turns are all gradual and there are lots of great spectator locations on the bridges, near the start, at Festival Beach Park, and on the boardwalk. After the boardwalk, the race course will make a wide, gradual turn around the basin past Bird Island, and return west. The finish line will be the exact location of where we begin our spring sprint races. Racers will have about 500 meters for a cool down row before they reach the recovery docks.
