Head of the Trent is an annual regatta held on the historic Trent Severn waterway in Peterborough, Ontario. Participants race along the scenic Trent Canal and Otonabee River.

2019 marks the 49th running of the Head of Trent Regatta and we are embarking on the next chapter of the regatta this year by expanding to 2 days to offer more racing.  Our main focus in expanding to 2 days was to allow more racing at all levels and to include more introductory races to allow more athletes the opportunity to race at the Head of the Trent.

The bulk of racing on both Saturday and Sunday will be along the historic 4.5km head style racecourse.  We will be adding more races from the “Wall” which is our 3.5km start line as well as the very exciting new 500m dashes from the canal to the infamous Library Corner.

The regatta draws competitors primarily from Ontario, Quebec, and the northern United States, with international clubs also participating on occasion. Over 1000 athletes from 50 clubs over 2 days of racing in 500+ boats.

Races start at 8:30am both Saturday and Sunday , running until sunset with the events split into 5 divisions.  Events range from University, Club and Masters to U19 and Recreational events.  Crews race from the south end of the course near Parkhill Rd. bridge, north through the canal at the rowing club, and finish just north of the Faryon foot bridge in the heart of the Trent University Campus.

The regatta coincides with Trent University’s homecoming celebrations, and provides a unique atmosphere of spectators, festivities and activities. Crews are often cheered along by revelers at the finish line and some of the more narrow portions of the course like the canal.
