Boats

It is customary in Beach Sprint racing for the Local Organizing Committee to supply the boats to ensure that they are equally matched. We will be using four LiteRace solos (2 at a time on the racecourse), two LiteRace doubles, and new this year we will be introducing our Wintech Odyssey coxed quads. The Odysseys do not meet the official coastal standards but are open water boats that are equally matched and will work well on our course, which has no shorebreak. So don’t worry about bringing your own boat—you can’t use it anyway.

Race Divisions

Unlike most regattas in which you would register into a pre-established division, here you will just register your boat as a 1x, 2x, or 4x+. We will then use a handicapping formula to group the boats that register into a “low handicap” or “high handicap,” and possibly more divisions based on how many boats register. This worked well last last year, and makes it easier to ensure good racing within a bracket regardless of who registers. Lodging

Olympic National Park is our backyard and August is prime tourist season.

1. Take advantage of that and do some sightseeing while you are here. There is a free bus to Hurricane Ridge from the Gateway Center, which is a block from the racecourse. We would be glad to make other recommendations based on your time and interests.
2. Book your lodging ASAP. The availability will go down and the prices will go up the closer we get to race time. It is usually easy to cancel a reservation if it won’t be needed. If you are having difficulty obtaining lodging, let us know and we might be able to help.
