In addition to the above rules, we are trying to eliminate hot seating by using the order of events from prior years.
Here are some of the rules highlighted (See link above for all rules.):
3. Eligibililty:
k. All rowers must pass a swim test....
4. General Racing Rules
- The total number of meets a team may compete in is 16.
- All races should be between 1,000 and 1,500 meters depending on the course availability. When possible, 1,500 meters is the recommended length.
- Hazards near or on the race course should be marked. Course maps for every HVRL, Inc. race course will be provided to Head Coaches and launch drivers. Course maps will be on the HVRL, Inc. website.
- There are no race offs for ties.
- Races will be run sprint style.
- Athlete Weight limits for Lightweight Events will follow the weight limits defined by the NYS Scholastic Rowing Association. At the initial weigh-in, a lightweight athlete must make weight. There will be no re-weighs.
- Within the first 30 seconds of the race start contact of any kind between any boats, excepting oar to oar contact, will result in an immediate restart. Offending crew(s) will be charged with false start. Second false start by same crew(s) will result in disqualification from that race. If contact after 30 seconds occurs there will be no restarts, no exceptions....
5. Gender Requirements
- A boy may not row in a girl’s race.
- A boy may Cox a boat in a girl’s race.
- A girl may Cox a boat in a boy’s race.
- Girls may row in boy’s race under the following conditions:
- A boy’s 8+, 4+ or 4x may have up to 25% female rowers.
- e.g..: an 8+ boat may row with 1 or 2 girls. A 4+/4x boat may row with 1 girl.
- A boy’s sculling double may have up to 50% female rowers.
- e.g.: a double may have 1 female sculler.
- A boy’s 8+, 4+ or 4x may have up to 25% female rowers.
6. Event Limits
b. Championships, excepting HVRL, Inc. Sculling Championships
- No athlete may row twice in championship races regardless of school/club size.
- Coxswains may row once and Cox once or Cox twice....
For scoring, we will be using the same scoring as per the HVRL rule # 9. Also, we will score the sculling events seperately.
9. Scoring (HVRL, Inc. County Championships and HVRL, Inc. Championships only)
- If there are more than 5 or 6 boats in a race (depending on the venue size as determined by hosting team), the race will be divided equally into 2 or 3 heats by random drawing for each event, with final places awarded based on times (heats will be run immediately after each other).
- Any tie in team scoring will be broken by which team had the highest finish in the 8+ event.
- Scoring will be determined by the following scoring system and will be based on the number of teams in the regatta not the number of boats in the race:

Examples:
- 8 teams in a regatta, 7 boats in the 8+ race, first gets 32, second 28, third 24, fourth 20, 5th 16, 6th 12, 7th 8 and would run in a heat of 4 and a heat of 3.
- 8 boats in the 4+, first gets 16, second 14, 3rd 12, 4th 10, 5th 8, 6th 6, 7th 4, 8th 2, and would run in two heats of 4.
- 4 boats in the light weigh 4+, first gets 16, 2nd 14, 3rd 12, 4th 10 and would run in one heat of 4, assuming a venue maximum of 6.
- If there were 5 teams, first 8+ would get 20, first 4+ 10, first Lightweight 4+ 10.
