Home team volunteers:

We ask all home teams to please provide 5 volunteers, a launch and driver.  Gas will be taken care of by the MYSO LOC.

 

  1. Entries
  1. All entries must be made on Regatta Central
  2. Entry Deadline - Entries are due no later than April 10, 2017 @ 11:59pm EDT
  3. Waivers - All waivers must be completed on-line at Regatta Central. Once completed, the on-line waiver applies to ALL USRowing registered regattas in 2017
  4. No competitor will be allowed to race without a signed waiver on file.
  5. Two entry types may participate – Scholastic and Club teams
  6. Events must have a minimum of two entries.  Races with only one entry may be combined with another event or cancelled.  In the event of event cancellation due to insufficient entries, the entry fee will be refunded.
  7. USRowing organizational membership
  1. USRowing requires all participating organizations at registered regattas to be USRowing members.
  2. USRowing Rules of Rowing will be used.

 

2.    Eligibility

      Competitors in 9th – 12th grades

  1. Eligibility is assigned to students in their freshman through senior years (9th through 12th grades). Each athlete has four consecutive years of eligibility beginning with entry into the freshman year (9th grade).
  2. Competitors in 9th – 12th grades may compete in more than one event, so long as appropriate time allows.
  3. Junior events are restricted to competitors in the Junior year (11th grade) or lower
  4. All competitors in Boys Freshman Eight and Girls Freshman Eight, must be high school freshman (9th graders).
  5. Substitutions - A crew other than a single scull may substitute up to one-half of its rowers, as well as the coxswain.

 

      Competitors in 7th and 8th grades

  1. All Competitors in Boys and Girls 7th and 8th grades may compete in only one event – 2x, 4x, 4+ on full 1500m course.
  2. All competitors in Boys and Girls 7th & 8th grade events must be in 7th or 8th grades.
  3. Substitutions - A crew may substitute up to one-half of its rowers, as well as the coxswain.

 

3.    Weight Categories

  1. Lightweight boys shall weigh no more than 150 lbs.
  2. Lightweight girls shall weigh no more than 130 lbs.
  3. No weight averaging is required.
  4. Weigh-ins:  Weigh-ins will be held as follows:
  1. Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Kearny Boathouse
  2. Athletes must be within 2 pounds of the required weight on the first try or they will not be allowed to weigh in again. If they are within 1 pound they are allowed to return one additional time.
  3. Crews must weigh in wearing racing uniforms, and no weight allowance will be permitted. All members of a boat must be present.
  4. Coxswains will be weighed in for informational purposes only.  Coxswains will not be required to carry additional weight.

 

4.   Check-In

  1. Check-In will be held on the morning of the regatta, 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., Kearny Boathouse
  2. Entry information for each school will be provided in a team packet at the time of registration. A coach or team representative should check and verify the entries and boats for his/her school. All substitutions and scratches must be reported at check-in.
  3. All crews MUST check-in during the given time frame and be represented at the Coaches/Coxswain meeting.
  4. A meeting for all coaches, coxswains, single scullers, and bowmen/women will be held Saturday morning at 7:00a.m. at the Kearny Boathouse.  All crews will be responsible for the information delivered at the meeting.

 

5.   Number of entries determines medals:

  1. All medals will be awarded per event:
  1. minimum 2 entries - gold medal
  2. minimum 4 entries - gold and silver medals
  3. minimum 5 entries - gold, silver and bronze medals

 

6.   Speed Order Guidelines:

  1. Races will not be delayed for crews that are late to the start for any reason. Crews must start in the order assigned for the speed order.
  2. Hot Seating:
  1. If your boat requires 'hot seating' please let the dock master know and have those going into boat ready or the boat will have to be pulled off the dock. Talk to the other crews and let them know you are hot seating for priority docking.
  2. All reasonable measures will be taken to accommodate a hot-seated boat at the start line
  1. Bow Markers - Bow numbers will be provided. 
    1. No shell may race without a bow number.
    2. All crews must have their assigned number securely fastened to the bow of their shell
    3. Please note that you will have to leave a $5 hold deposit for each bow number that you receive.  The deposit will be returned when you return your bow numbers.
    4. Bow Balls - No shell may launch without a bow ball.

 

  7.   Speed Order

  1. All crews will race down lane 2 (west side (highway side))
  2. 30 seconds between boats
  3. Overtaken boats must yield to overtaking boat or be excluded.
  4. A boat is deemed to be overtaking if it is within one length of open water.
  5. Any crew crossing the course during time trials will be excluded, unless permitted by a race official when launching off the dock.

 

  8.   The Start

  1. Upon arriving at the starting line, the marshals will direct you either into the chute for your race or to the warm-up area.
  2. It is your responsibility to be in numerical order, staying behind the numbers lower than yours and ahead of the numbers higher.
  3. Every effort will be made by the marshals to send crews down the chutes in ascending numerical order, but this can only be accomplished with your cooperation.
  4. When directed into the chutes, proceed quickly and safely.
  5. Crews shall be responsible for maintaining their proper order at the start, for maintaining the proper interval between it and the other crews in the chutes, and for staying within the chutes as they approach the starting line.
  6. Crews not maintaining their proper position may be delayed, moved to the end of the starting order, penalized, or excluded.
  7. The starter will tell you that you are approaching the starting line. You should increase pressure and cross the line at full pressure.
  8. Stay in lane 2 (west side (highway side)) for the entire race course except for broken equipment or to yield to an overtaking boat.

 

  9.   Passing

  1. A crew is deemed to be overtaking another crew when it has moved to within one length of open water of the crew ahead.
  2. A crew being overtaken shall yield to allow the overtaking crew to pass.
  3. Course marshals will give instructions as set forth in the US Rowing Rules of Rowing. Should it be necessary to exclude a crew during a race, the marshal will raise a white flag and order the offending crew to "stop". A crew so ordered shall quickly move out of its lane so as not to interfere with any other crew.

 

10.  Penalties

  1. Where buoys mark the boundaries of the course, and in particular, mark turns on the course, a boat shall be penalized 10 seconds for each buoy passed incorrectly.  A boat passes a buoy incorrectly when any part of its hull passes on the wrong side of the buoy
  2. Boats missing their correct order at the start shall be penalized 10 seconds
  3. Interference Penalties
    1. 1st infraction: 60 second penalty
    2. 2nd infraction: 120 second penalty
    3. 3rd infraction: exclusion from the regatta
  4. Non-yield: 30 second penalty

 

11.  Protests

  1. Good sportsmanship must prevail at all times.
  2. Unsportsmanlike Conduct - The crew of any competitor caught stealing or engaging in any unsportsmanlike conduct will, at the discretion of the Regatta Committee, be disqualified.
  3. Boats wishing to protest must first lodge the protest at the finish line to the finish line official(s) or finish marshal, while still on the water.  The protesting rower(s) must then submit the protest in writing, along with a $50 fee, to the Head Referee or his/her designee within one hour of reaching land.  The protest must be signed by a member of the protesting crew and represent that, to the best of their knowledge and belief, the facts contained are true and accurate.  The decision of the Head Referee/protest jury shall be final and may not be appealed.  If the decision is found to be in favor of the protesting crew or substantially justified, the protest fee will be returned to the protesting crew.  If the decision is against the protesting crew or the protest found unjustified, the fee will be retained.
