Hot Head Regatta

  • Hosted By: Tempe Town Lake Rowing
  • 2016 Registered Regatta

Tempe Town Lake is a man made body of water that is located on the northern edge of downtown Tempe. The lake is two miles long and between 200 and 240 meters wide. There are bladder dams located at the east and west end of the lake and it is a perfect venue for head style racing.

The race course starts on the south side of the lake with crews racing east and executing a 180o turn at the East Dam. The racers, now heading west, must negotiate one more bridge as they race past the SRP Marina toward the finish, for a total distance of 5K. There are a total of 5 bridges the athletes race through, so not only is the course scenic it is challenging for coxswains and scullers alike.

The events headquarters is at the SRP Marina, home of the Tempe Town Lake Rowing Club. This location is where teams will have plenty of room to store their trailers and spread their equipment out on the grassy knoll along the lake. In addition it offers great viewing of the first mile of the course as well as the finish line. Tempe Town Lake and the SRP Marina are truly jewels in the desert.
