Head of the Grand Regatta

  • Hosted By: Michigan State Crew Club
  • 2016 Registered Regatta
Where to view the Regatta: There are 5 vantage points to view the racing: 1. The best vantage point is on the hill just to the right of the parking lot as you enter the park. This hill gives a view of nearly 70% of the race course, plus a nice place to sit if you have a lawn chair. 2. There is viewing along the river right in front of the boathouses, along with a small observation deck between the boathouse and the public boat ramp, but you do not see as much of the river here it is close to the water and near the team launching area. 3.There are two large observation decks on the South side of the river (opposite side of the boathouse). These decks can be reached by passing over the Waverly St Bridge, and traveling down the South side of the river down Mt. Hope Road, then taking a right onto Moors River Drive. There is parking at these decks. The boats cut very close to this shore while taking the bend down the river, so it is perfect for picture taking. 4.There is a sidewalk path on the Waverly Street Bridge where the racing starts. This gives a great vantage point of the crews rowing through the bridge through the start. 5.There is also a path behind the boathouses that leads to the finish line. There is not a lot of land here but you can get a full view of the finish line. This path can get a little muddy if it has rained recently.
