Adaptive events - please contact John Butsch at [email protected] if you or someone you know would like to participate in the Adaptive events for Chicago Sprints.  This i absolutely required.

Heats and Finals - all heats and finals for all events will be held on the same day - see the schedule above or Event List for days and order of events.  This convention will be followed for all events, barring weather delays or other unforeseen circumstance.

Progression of heats and finals - Awards will be presented for first and second place finishes in each event.  Events with fewer than four entries will be final-only, with the fastest time winning. Events with 4-7 entries will include heats and finals.  The two fastest times in the heats for each event will advance to the finals. Events with greater than seven entries will include heats, semifinals and finals. The four fastest times in the heats for each event will advance to the semifinals.  Semifinals will be seeded by heat times (1 vs 4, 2 vs 3) and the winner of each semifinal will advance to the finals. Finals will be scheduled on the same day as heats.  Rec, Masters and Juniors events are expected to be a straight progression from heats to finals, with no semi-finals.  The Mixed 8 is a finals-only event.

In the case of events with an uneven number of entries, one entry may be required to run its heat for time unopposed or against a boat of a different category. The Regatta Committee will make every attempt to schedule competitive heats for these boats. Lane assignments in the heats will be by random draw, with consideration given to avoid assigning crews from the same team to race each other where possible.
