Indianapolis Collegiate Invite

  • Hosted By: Indianapolis Rowing Center
VARSITY EIGHT REQUIRED

The focus of this regatta is on programs fielding varsity eights. While the organizing committee may extend invitations to programs that may not row eights, if there are eight people in your program, and you own an eight, we would like to see a varsity eight entered, even if it means double-rowing more than the allowed 2 athletes for an eight. This exception is limited to smaller or "start up" programs.  Larger and established programs may not violate the double-rowing rule.  For these smaller/start-up programs that may focus on fours:  Upon entering you are accepting the responsibility of rowing the Varsity Eight ? you may not scratch it to focus on the fours events.  You may not row the Varsity Eight in the heats, and then scratch the petites or finals in order to concentrate on your fours. Such violation of sportsmanship will be noted, and reflected in invitations next year. The intention of the Varsity Fours event at this regatta is to provide competition for Junior Varsity oarspersons, and that allowance of entry into the event means you are obligated to enter and race in the Varsity Eight event.

"B" ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Teams may have unlimited multiple entries in the 2nd Frosh and 2nd Varsity events provided that a 1st Frosh and/or 1st Varsity events are entered.

You may only enter a "B" four entry if you also have a varsity eight entered (making note of the double-rowing rules below). The same rule applies to Freshman/Novice fours in relation to Freshman/Novice eights.

DOUBLE ROWING

The organizing committee would like to keep double-rowing limited, only filling out crews that may be a person or two short, so that all athletes may race. The rule is two people in an eight, and one in a four. Coxswains are exempt. If it takes more people to double-row (including a freshman or novice) to complete a varsity eight for a small/start-up program, this may be acceptable upon petition. If it takes more than two people to double-row (including a freshman or novice) to complete a varsity eight, you must petition via email to Gregg Hartsuff ([email protected]) and the organizing committee will decide if this is acceptable. This exception will be limited to smaller or start-up programs.  Note that hot-seating will not be accommodated.

The organizing committee does not want teams to break their varsity, 2nd varsity or frosh eights into fours just to get another race. Programs that are larger and established (over 5 years old) that tend to row 2 fours instead of the eight will have to enter the eight event and will not be able to enter a varsity four.

LIGHTWEIGHTS/WEIGH-IN

The Indianapolis Collegiate Invitational Regatta will offer lightweight events if there are three or more entries.  However, if there are under three lightweight entries in one event, we will make every effort to have the crews race each other (perhaps in adjacent lanes) during the regatta. Please make note on your entry form if you are entering lightweight crews into a heavyweight event.

There will be no weigh-in for lightweights or coxswains.

CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING & SEEDING

The Indianapolis Collegiate Invitational Regatta serves as a Regional Qualifying Regatta for the ECAC Rowing Championships (formerly Avaya and Champion). Results in this race are also considered in seeding for the ECAC Championships and the Dad Vail Regatta. Programs participating in both regattas will be competing in Indianapolis.
