The San Diego Susan G. Komen Foundation and UC San Diego's Womens Crew team invite you to participate in the 2010 San Diego Row for the Cure
to be held Sunday, October 31st on Mission Bay.

Established in 2002, the event raises money through participant entry fees, donations, and raffle tickets to be given DIRECTLY to the Komen Foundation.Over the past eight years, the regatta has raised over $200,000 to assist under and uninsured women. Last year's event raised $21,392 and served over 26,000 people in San Diego County. These funds paid for 8,320 mammograms for uninsured and under-insured women. The support paid for the 2,539 women who were referred for a biopsy, and through that, the early detection caught 211 women at Stage 1, where there is a 98% survival rate. Funds raised from last year's Row for the Cure also covered complete chemotherapy for four women, rent for a year for 12 women who could not work while ill, and meals 3 times a day for a family whose mother was too ill to work.

"One in nine women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and that resonates with us because there are nine women in each boat. When we look at our teammates, we know one will be diagnosed with breast cancer," said Head Coach for UC San Diego Womens Crew, Pattie Pinkerton, "We have lost moms, sisters, and alumni and we want to do all that we can to find a cure. This gives the university and water community an opportunity to take part and support the search for the cure."

Our goal this year is to raise $25,000, so that we can reach even more women and families in our community and support the search for the cure! Your participation in the Row for the Cure can help make this happen!

The event is open to all human powered water craft. Last year's event saw a record number of participants; which included rowers, dragon boats, stand up and sit-down paddlers, first time rowers in the barge, and outriggers. In 2009, participants ranged in age from 12 to 84.

You can raise funds by setting up an online giving page at: http://sandiego.info-komen.org/site/TR?fr_id=2121&pg=entry. You can register yourself, your team or crew. Komen will provide all the assistance you need!
