Jack Speakmon, the late director of the Columbus Parks and Recreation department, was instrumental in the start of the Greater Columbus Rowing Association. His support in the early days, when "some crazy guys want to go out in a little boat," allowed rowing to start in central Ohio. Now the home to many high school, adult and collegiate clubs, with rowers including current and former Olympians, central Ohio is proud to acknolwedge our debt to Jack Speakmon by dedicating the state's finest head race to him.
