Head Up the Creek

  • Hosted By: False Creek Rowing Club

Welcome to Head Up The Creek 2014... we look forward to seeing you on Sunday March 9th, 2014 at Vancouver's Vanier Park for the only rowing regatta in the City of Vancouver.

Entry fees are $25 per person and you can enter both flights if you so desire.

There aren't many changes this year: we are having Yolk's www.yolks.ca serve food again this year and will be providing all entrants with a $2 off coupon for food items. Volunteers (including our Umpires) will have their meals on us.

It's still a wet launch (sorry) but hopefully it will be a dry day.

This year the entry has been amended slightly to allow clubs to enter boats in either flight. While preferably we would like you to enter men's and mixed big boats and women's small boats in the first flight, and women's big boats and men's and mixed small boats in the second, we recognize that clubs have equipment limitations that prevent that at times. Para-rowing entries are racing all together in the first flight however.

An overall winner for the regatta will be chosen through comparison against predicted best times using the new Rowing Canada Aviron Masters Handicapping system in conjunction with data from Head Of The Charles and Head Of The Lake. The crew with the best time compared to their predicted time will receive a prize.

Participants using Performance Phone's CrewNerd application http://performancephones.com/crewnerd/ will be able to set up the regatta on their smart phones and portable devices to be able to track where they are. More details on that as we get closer to the regatta.

Information on the tides during the regatta can be found here: http://www.waterlevels.gc.ca/eng/station?sid=7735  or for regatta day in 2014, here.

Weather information is available from Weather Canada here. Metric or Imperial. The search engine Bing is also pretty good for weather.

Please note:

  • this is a wet launch - you might want to bring appropriate footwear.
  • it is March regatta and not particularly warm at this time of year - please dress appropriately
  • PAY FOR YOUR PARKING - the parking people are extremely vigilent. Volunteers including Umpires will have parking spots provided, participants are encouranged to take transit, ride bikes or pay for parking.
  • kindly take your garbage home with you.

Beyond that, thank you for checking in and I look forward to seeing you soon.
