Rules and Regulations

  • All Rowers must register 1:30 hours before their event starts

  • Final Schedule will be posted 1 hour before the race, until then all times are estimates, look for a better schedule on Friday before the event

  • The Concept II®Model D ergo-meter will be used. You may use the damper setting of your choice,but the setting may not be changed during the race. All races are 2000 meters ( except bantam and coxswain events)

  • All rowers will row only once in a heats based format. Rowers will compete as a group. Participants will be seeded, based upon erg scores submitted on the entry form,so that each rower will compete against other rowers of comparable abilities. The best time will win the overall event.

  • Lightweight Divisions: There are Lightweight Divisions within the Junior, Master, Senior,and Veteran events. The lightweight division scores will be tabulated both inclusively and separately in each of these events. Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female lightweight finishers

  • All Lightweight and Coxswain competitors MUST weigh-in on race day

  • weigh-ins will be open all day but close 1 hour before each event, no rower will be permitted to weigh in after the hour mark before the start of their event.

  • High School Lightweights cannot exceed the maximum weight restrictions (165 pounds for men;135 pounds for women)

  • High School Coxswains Men 120 lbs max

  • High School Coxswains Women 110 lbs max

  • Weigh-in race attire is required. There will be no naked weigh-ins.

  • Athletes who fail to weigh in will still row on their assigned erg at their originally assigned time; the entrant will not be moved, only their results will be moved (into the Open category of their event). N.B. Coxswains will have the option to weigh-in for the Lightweight category if they fail to weigh-in at the Coxswain limit.

  • College Lightweights cannot exceed the maximum weight restrictions ( 155lbs Men and 130lbs Women)

  • College Coxswains shall be no more than 120 pounds

  • Warm-up ergs will be available for use by all competitors adjacent to the competition portion of the race floor. Final warm up strokes may be taken on the competition floor up to 5 minutes prior to race time.

  • If there are not enough rowers per heat the event will be run with other events that closely match the speed of the event.

  • The meaning and application of these rules will be determined solely by the Strong Island Sprints Race Committee. All deliberations and decisions by the Race Committee will be secret, arbitrary, and final. No whining allowed. Bribes will be considered and appreciated.

  • Note:Any college, master, senior or veteran falling into a lightweight class, will be run as a lightweight event only if there are three or more entries in that specific category. If no other lightweights are entered,entrant will be placed with their peers in their age category.
