18th Annual Halifax Summer Regatta

  • Hosted By: Halifax Rowing Association, Inc.
  • 2016 Registered Regatta

Thank you to everyone who braved the heat and the water at Halifax this weekend.  It was another record year for entries, and we hope that everyone had a great day of racing.

A couple of notes, Coast Guard was scheduled to be on site, but was called away for multiple danger calls, people out of gas 28 miles offshore (2 incidents), an escort for injury onboard a fishing boat, and a collision in front of the Coast Guard Station.  We have now learned that it is not good to rely soley on the Coast Guard, because a rowing regatta does not take precedence over possible loss of life.  Go figure!  We will get a County or local police boat on the water next year.

It was hard to pull the plug on the regatta this year, I personally felt like I had to finally became an adult, lol.  At 3:30 one of our rowers drove over the bridge, and there were whitecaps on the race course.  We are happy that everyone remained safe, and I hope that you all have a good Head Race Season!

Congratulations to The Stewards Foundation on their win of the inaugural Youth All-Points Trophy!  It was a close with Plant High, only 18 points separating the two teams.  Great competition, and good luck to all teams next year!

Heat Sheet is posted, please check for any issues with your entries!!!

Halifax and Paddlestars made the news:

We are really looking forward to some positive changes for this year's regatta:

1)  Coast Guard presence on the water near the no-wake zone.

2)  Please send us good wishes as we attempt to buoy the lanes every 250 meters this year on a tidal river......

3)  We are partnered with Paddlestars, a SUP event on the river, meaning we will have a larger selection of food for y'all, including vegetarian!

4)  We will have plenty of potties!
