Lift Bridge Regatta

  • Hosted By: Fairport Crew Club Inc.
  • 2016 Registered Regatta

The 10th Annual Lift Bridge Regatta will be held in the historic Village of Fairport onSunday, Sept. 28, 2014. The races will start at the flood gates just NE of I-490 and finish at the Lift Bridge in Fairport (the Novice start line is near the Oxbow, making for a shorter race). Generally speaking, there will be a tail/crosswind and a tail current.

The Lift Bridge on Main Street in the Village of Fairport has appeared in Ripley's Believe It or Not because of its unusual construction. The bridge is an irregular, ten-sided structure and crosses the canal at a 32-degree angle. No two angles in the bridge are the same, and no corners on the bridge are square. The bridge weighs 720 tons and is powered by a 40-horsepower electric motor. Clearance under the Fairport Lift Bridge is 6 feet when lowered and 15 feet when raised.

The Fairport Crew Boathouse is roughly 2/3 through the race. Launching and Docking will be done at the Fairport Crew docks. The boathouse is located on a portion of Perinton Park. The finish line is in the middle of the Village of Fairport, just past the Lift Bridge.
