Head of the Genesee

  • Hosted By: Genesee Waterways Center, Inc.

  • The race consists of a head race in the morning (3 miles) and a sprint race in the afternoon.
  • The race is held in Genesee Valley Park, located in Rochester, NY, at the Genesee Waterways Facility.
  • High school races are a head race only in the morning.
  • For the safety of all of the crews, novice crews are not permitted, and we ask that you not bring a novice coxswain.
  • Please download the participant waiver from the Regatta Central site.
  • In order to receive registration materials upon arrival, signed waivers must be handed in on Saturday prior to the practice row or on Sunday prior to racing.
  • This year, we have changed the rules regarding progression from the morning head race to the afternoon sprint race.
  • If the number of entries in a race is 1-4, then all go to the final.
If the number of entries in a race is 5-11, then the top 4 go to the final.
If the number of entries in a race is 12-19, then the top 6 go to the final.
If the number of entries in a race is 20-27, then the top 8 go to the final.
If the number of entries in a race is 28 or over, then the greater of 10,  or in events that have both college and open divisions, the number that includes the 4th collegiate and 4th open finisher, plus all faster boats in that
event will go to the final.   For example, if 29 boats race, and the 4th Open finisher is 8th, and the 4th Collegiate
finisher is 12th, then 12 boats will race in the final.
