Melbourne Head Regatta

  • Hosted By: Upper Yarra Rowing Club

The Melbourne Head was founded in 2004 by Peter Antonie and John Whiting. The decision to create the event was made in Boston in October 2003, after both had rowed in the Head of the Charles River event. www.hocr.org

The Head of the Charles offers rowers and scullers of all ages and standards the chance to participate in a head race, through a 'rowing city" in a range of boat types. The event has grown to become the largest regatta of its type, with 9000 competitors over two days. The Melbourne Head was intended to provide a similar experience,  maximising the chance for people to enjoycompetition on the beautiful Yarra as it approaches the city.
