The 2016 North Star Regatta

The University of Minnesota Men’s Crew team is excited to host the 2016 North Star Regatta on Saturday, October 29th. The North Star regatta had its inauguration last year, in 2015. This year’s regatta has attracted eleven college and university teams from six states across the Midwest who will battle it out on the Mississippi River.

​The North Star regatta is a head-race style event. Crews are lined up one by one, at the starting line just past the Lake Street bridge. Crews are launched at intervals, and are timed through the finish line just before the U of M dock. Boats will attempt to chase and pass the crews ahead of them while navigating the course.

The race runs over 5,000 meters,  from a mile downstream of the Lake St. Bridge to just past the I-94 Bridge, with the finish line in full view of spectators a few hundred yards south of the University of Minnesota boathouse.

Spectator Information:

• The regatta is being hosted out of the University of Minnesota Boathouse, located on the east river flats at 550 East River Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55455. Map to venue: http://campusmaps.umn.edu/university-minnesota-boathouse

• There are many great places to view the regatta along the river, we recommend walking a few hundred feet down the running trail towards the I-94 bridge, which will place spectators just feet from boats sprinting it out as they cross the finish line.

• First Race begins at 8:45 AM and the last at 1:30 PM

Acknowledgements:

The North Star Regatta has been organized by the University of Minnesota Men's Crew team. The "North Star Committee" is the organizing body behind the event, led by our head Coach Aaron Schnell, Michael Schmidt as the club president, and Philip Johnson, an alumnus serving as a representative from the Minneapolis Rowing Club. Several team members also serve on the North Star Committee. The Men’s Crew team also receives help our booster club, the Friends of Minnesota Men’s Crew.
