Head of the Colorado (PumpkinHead)

  • Cancelled

October 19, 2018

Hello everyone,

I am sorry to announce that the 2018 Head of the Colorado Regatta has been cancelled. As some of you may know, the central Texas highland lakes have been experiencing unprecedented flooding, and all that water has been making its way down the series of lakes that lead to Lady Bird Lake. The Lower Colorado River Authority anticipates they will need to open several more flood gates (a record number). With this much water, we do not see a scenario in which Lady Bird Lake will be rowable by next weekend. LCRA has informed us that even if the rainfall stops (it is forecast to continue), they will need to release water all through next week. At the moment, there is a waterway ban that runs through Tuesday, October 23rd.

Although we have a policy that entry fees are non-refundable, this is a unique situation, and we will be refunding 100% of all regatta entry fees. You may have heard that we have looked in to potentially rescheduling the regatta to mid-November. We are still waiting to hear from the City of Austin about whether the venue is available for various dates in November. We will let you all know if this option becomes possible.

Again, we apologize for having to cancel the regatta—this is a disappointing situation for all of us. We look forward to seeing you all (along with some better weather) for the spring racing season.

Best,

Brenda Walk
