Erg Rodeo 2019 Rules and Procedures

INFORMATION AND RULES OF THE REGATTA

Health & Safety

Texas Crew has hired one Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to serve the needs of any individuals who may experience an emergency during raceday. If any competitor has a pre-existing condition that may be a cause for concern, please notify the EMT before you race.

Check-in

All competitors need to arrive at least an hour and a half early to register and warm-up for their individual races. Check-in for the first event will begin one hour before the first race. The first race will begin at 8:00am. Please note that you must register online this year and there will be no same-day registration. You must check in for your event at least one hour prior to the scheduled time. Athletes who check in later than one hour before their event maybe able to race in that event, or a later scheduled event, but will not be eligible for a trophy or buckle.

Class Divisions

Novice Events: Restricted to first-year rowers

Lightweight Events: Restricted to competitors who have verified their weight on race day at the weigh-in table beginning at 7a.m. Weight Restrictions: Men: 165.0 lbs. Women:135.0 lbs.  Junior men's lightweight events will have a cutoff of 155.0 lbs.

Coxswain Event: Restricted to coxswains. There are no age or weight restrictions

Junior Events: Restricted to competitors enrolled in grades 6-12

Open Events: No age restrictions and includes collegiate events.

Masters Events: Restricted to appropriate age category.

Adaptive Events: Participants must enter into the LTA (Leg, Trunk, and Arms) category. They must provide their own specific adaptations for access to the erg (including seating if you require a fixed seat). They can also have one assistant present at the race to assist with transferring to and from the erg if needed. The distance for the adaptive category is 1000 m.

Special Olympics Events: Participants must have an assistant present at the race to assist in any required adaptations to the erg. The distance for the Special Olympics category is 1000 m.

All individual events (excluding Adaptive and Special Olympics) are 2000 meters and all times listed are approximate. In events requiring multiple heats, we will attempt to group competitors from slowest to fastest, in ascending order, based on entry-form predicted times. All competitors will pull only once, unless competing in the relay event, and racing should conclude no later than 2:00pm. Please plan to arrive at least an hour and a half before your event so that check-in, warm-ups, and racing can all run smoothly.

Mixed Open 8+ Relays

Relays will be 8500 meters long, with 8 rowers each responsible for 1000 meters and 1 coxswain rowing 500 meters. Each team will use one ergometer and a total time will be taken (including rower switches). Participation is free to anyone entered in other Erg Rodeo events. There are no age or weight limits; however, a true coxswain is required. Teams must have 9 members: 8 rowers (at least 4 of whom must be women) and 1 coxswain.  The distance of this event could change depending on time at the board's discretion.

Lightweight Weigh-In

Lightweights must weigh-in on race day at least one hour before their scheduled start time, and we recommend that you arrive at least an hour an a half before your race to ensure that you have time for check-ins, weigh-ins, and warm-up. You must check in before weigh-ins. Competitors who do not make weight should still plan on racing in their original lightweight heat. If time permits, we may move them to a heavyweight heat, but this is not guaranteed (either way their results will be included with their heavyweight competitors time). Weigh-in begins at 7am.

Schedule

Event times are approximate and the schedule is subject to change. The schedule as printed on race day is the best estimate of when an event will begin. Rowers and coaches should allow sufficient time before and after their scheduled event to accommodate any adjustments in timing that may be required. As event registrations (numbers of rowers) dictate, it is also possible that more than one event will be conducted at the sametime. Please listen for calls before the start of each heat. We will do our best to keep to the schedule and make announcements as needed. The rower's cooperation is always appreciated.

Awards and Prizes

The Coveted Trophy Buckles will be awarded to the fastest "openweight" Male and Female (both open and juniors), the fastest lightweight male and female (both open and juniors), and the fastest overall masters Male and Female (age handicapped). Trophies will be awarded to winners in those events who do not win buckles. If an athlete wins the 'overall' award for their category, and a buckle, they will not be eligible for a trophy.

Interpretation of Rules

The meaning and application of this information will be determined solely by the Erg Rodeo Planning Committee and all decisions will be final. Schedules will be updated, as needed, based on entries.
