Hi coaches,

Hope everyone had a great HOCR weekend!

Please see below for my original e-mail about Entries, Rosters, Waivers, Lineups, Payments, and Eligibility rules.

This week's update - lots of news and answers to FAQs!

Coxswain expectations: please view our "coxswain standards" document. This was written for the spring race, but other than the part about stakeboats, it also applies to the fall race. All coxswains (and scullers) are expected to have the skills outlined here: http://mpsra.org/wp-content/uploads/MPSRA-Coxswain-Standards.pdf

Please also make sure coxswains understand how head racing works, particularly the chute. they will be expected to get themselves in bow number or for their event, and be ready to start 10-15 seconds apart.

Scratches: up until the entry deadline, Wednesday at 11:59 PM, you may delete your entries without penalty. Beyond that, any scratches are your responsibility, and you will still owe the entry fee.

While you're planning your entries: no doubling, except between disciplines (sweep, sculling, and coxing are all different disciplines). This is outlined clearly in the MPSRA by-laws; please don't ask us to make exceptions, because we won't do it. If you double between disciplines, it's your responsibility to make sure the schedule works for those athletes. This applies to all athletes, including coxswains. it also should go without saying that only novice-eligible athletes (for both rowers and coxswains) are allowed in novice events.

Medals will be awarded based on the number of entries:
2 or 3 boats: gold only
4 boats: gold and silver
5+ boats: gold, silver, bronze

Trophies: must be delivered to the registration desk before the c&c meeting. Brookline, Duxbury, WW, CRLS - this means you! The full list is here: http://mpsra.org/?page_id=96

Trailers: you may bring your trailer on Saturday or Sunday. On Saturday, you may only park along the Boulevard, where spots are first-come, first-served. No passes or permits required for trailer parking. This applies to team booster trailers as well. Note that we do not use the beach for the fall race, so you should plan to park near and launch from the boathouse. The boathouse parking lot will be open/available on Sunday (until it fills).

Tents: same as trailers - no pass or permit required. Space is first-come, first-served, and you may arrive anytime (at your own risk, there is no security provided).

Registration: you may come pick up your bow #s at the boathouse desk at 7:00 AM or later on Sunday.

C&C meeting: 7:30 AM Sunday at the boathouse. All teams must have at least one representative, otherwise you receive a team-wide warning for all entries.

WEATHER: It's fall racing in New England, so weather is always a gamble. Please make sure all athletes are prepared for cold/wind/rain and have appropriate layers.

In addition, we are looking to improve safety on the water by having many experienced refs & volunteers. If at all possible, please provide at least one coach (or experienced parent/spectator) for at least a half-day shift (approximately 8:00 AM - 11:30 AM or 12:30 PM - 3:00 PM). This is not a strict requirement, because many teams are already managing with just 1-2 coaches for 50-60+ athletes. However, if your team is able to spare an assistant coach or other rowing-knowledgeable parent/spectator, that will GREATLY improve safety and reduce the chances we'll have to cancel events if bad weather occurs! Many of you who were with us in the spring may remember that we had to cancel events when weather deteriorated; if we had had more adult volunteers from the start of the day, we might have felt more comfortable continuing with racing. Please don't wait until the weather is bad to offer your help; it will be too late then!

If you can volunteer: email Jess Murray at [email protected]. Thank you in advance!!

Text update system: Please sign up to receive race day updates by text (in the event of schedule changes, weather issues, other misc announcements).

COACHES ONLY PLEASE. We have a limited number of "subscribers" that may sign up. You're welcome to put all of your team's coaches on, if you wish.

Thanks, all!
