WICHITA FROSTBITE REGATTA

Location:

The Frostbite Regatta is staged from the Ralph Wulz Tennis Center, 551 N. Nims, in South Riverside Park, Wichita, Kansas.  Check online or see one of the Regatta Maps.

Crew Bus, RV and Van Parking:

Please unload at the designated load-unload area (see map below) as turning around in the Tennis Center will be difficult.  After unloading proceed west on Central and then continue right on Museum Blvd and then left onto Sim Park Dr. to the Overflow Lot on the Southwest corner of Seneca and Museum Blvd (park in either car or trailer lot; see map).  The entrance to these lots is off of Sim Park Dr. at the west end of the parking lot.  The lot is south of Sim Park Dr. (the lot is also south of Wichita Art Museum). 

Please do not attempt to park Buses, RV's or Van’s at the Ralph Wulz Tennis Center. 

When dropping off crews on Race Morning remember that the South Nims St. Bridge is closed to all vehicle traffic on Race Day between 7:30 and 5:00 pm.

Shell Trailer Parking:

1. One (1) trailer per team will be allowed to park in the Primary Lot; this trailer will get a parking stall based on a first-come first-served basis (see map)
2. Additional trailers are allowed without petition submissions (described below); however, they may not be parked in the Primary Lot and must be parked in the Overflow Lot (see map)
3. If parking for an additional trailer is desired in the Primary Lot, a team may petition for one. Teams must inform the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of their trailer requests by email to [email protected] by October 21th, 2018. Petitions will NOT be accepted after this date. Trailer petitions will be evaluated after this date and teams will be informed of approval by October 28th, 2018. Approval shall be granted at the discretion of the LOC. The location of the additional trailer will be assigned by the LOC (note: this may mean the additional trailer is not adjacent to the team primary trailer).

Regatta personnel will be on hand to help with trailer parking on Saturday. Parking for trailer tow vehicles will be reserved in an adjacent parking lot. If your shell trailer will be arriving late Saturday please advise the LOC so that we can alert our security personnel that will be in the area.

Car Topped Shell Parking:

A small parking lot is reserved for singles/doubles that are car topped. Other, adjacent small car topped vehicle only parking may be available on limited basis. Please follow the Frostbite Parking lot attendant instructions to ensure safety and ample space for all crews. 

Car Parking:

Please park cars in one of the following places:  the Ralph Wulz Tennis Center (permit parking), the parking lot south of the Nims/Central Street intersection, the Exploration Place parking lot on McLean Blvd on the south side of the confluence the Little and the Big Arkansas Rivers (and walk across the 2 pedestrian bridges at the Keeper of the Plains Monument), or at the HUGE double parking lot on Southwest corner of Central/Seneca and Museum Blvd with the entrance on the north side of the lot at the west end of the parking lot, enter the lot from  Sim Park Dr, a continuation of Museum Blvd. (south of Art Museum).  This is where the Buses, RV’s and Vans are parked.  

Along the race course there is limited car parking on the north side of the Little Arkansas River on Stackman Dr.  between the Finish line and the South Nims Bridge (last bridge on the race course) and continuing up to the Murdock Bridge (2nd race course bridge) and also up to the north Nims Bridge (1st race course Bridge).  Parking in these areas offers great views of the Race Course by walking or biking along the river.

Please do not park on the grass at any of the locations and please be courteous of private property.  Please do not block driveways and right-of-ways, these areas must remain clear to allow for emergency vehicle access.

Practice:

Crews are welcome to launch on Saturday for practice.  The Launch Dock will close at 5:30pm; NO EXCEPTIONS.  All boats must return to the dock and be off the river by 6:30 pm.  In addition to practice on the race course, final course preparation may be taking place by the Frostbite Staff and Race Officials on Saturday.   There will be no practice time on Race Day; NO EXCEPTIONS. 

Shell Storage:

Shells and Trailers can be stored in the parking lot of the Ralph Wulz Tennis Complex the night prior to the Regatta.  This is where the Regatta will be staged.  Personnel will be onsite to patrol the shell storage area Saturday night after 8 p.m.

Directions

Arriving from the northeast on I-35 Turnpike 

Exit at Exit 50 and take Kellogg  to the west to Seneca Street, approx 6.7 miles.   You will cross over the Big Arkansas River however the Frostbite Regatta is staged on the Little Arkansas River.
At Seneca Street go north to Central,  approx 1.1 mile, and take the bend to the right, east. 
Get in the left lane and proceed to Nim Street,  approx 0.2 mile. 
Turn left, north, onto Nims Street and the Ralph Wulz Riverside Tennis Complex, 551 Nims Street, is immediately on your left.  If you cross over the river you have gone to far.

Arriving from the south on I-35 Turnpike 

Exit at the south Wichita Exit, Exit 47 and take I-135 to the north.
Continue on I-135 north bound to the Kellogg Exit,  Exit 6A, approx 6 miles
Kellogg is also called Highway 54 and Highway 400 in Wichita.
Take the Kellogg exit to the west and contiue on Kellogg to Seneca. approx 2 miles.  You will cross over the Big Arkansas River however the Frostbite Regatta is staged on the Little Arkansas River.
At Seneca Street go north to Central, approx 1.1 mile, and take the bend to the right, east.
Get in the left lane and proceed to Nim Street, approx 0.2 mile.
Turn left, north, onto Nims Street and the Ralph Wulz Riverside Tennis Complex, 551 Nims Street, is immediately on your left. If you cross over the river you have gone to far.

Directions between Wichita State Universtiy Heskett Center and the Regatta Staging area.

1. Route with fewest Stop Lights (mainly Highway) if pulling trailer
   • Take 21st west to I-135 Exit 9. approx 1 mile
   • Take I-135 south to Kellogg Exit 6A approx 3 miles
   • (Kellogg is also called Highway 54 and Highway 400 in Wichita
   • Go west on Kellogg to Seneca Street, approx 2 miles
   • Go north on Seneca to Central approx 1.1 mile
   • At Seneca Street go north to Central, approx 1.1 mile, and take the bend to the right, east.
   • Get in the left lane and proceed to Nims Street, approx 0.2 mile.
   • Turn left, north, onto Nims Street and the Ralph Wulz Riverside Tennis Complex, 551 Nims Street, is immediately on your left. If you cross over the river you have gone to far.
   • Please park in designated spaces and/or follow instructions of parking assistants.
2. Two Options: Multi-stop with lights but slightly shorter distance (beware of Wichita traffic) 
   1. Take 21st  west to Hillside, south on Hillside to Central, go west on Central thru downtown to Nims/Parking. (Limited Food and Gas, Walgreens along the way.)
   2. Take 21st east to Oliver, south on Oliver to Central,go west on Central thru downtown)to Nims/Parking. (Some fast food, convenience stores, Phillip 66, Auto Parts Stores, Dillions grocery, Walgreens along the way). ACE Hardware and Dillions grocery are at corner of Douglas and Hillside.
