How to Enter the Stake Boats and "Spike" the Shell

All participants must understand how to enter stake boats from a 90 degree angle. Also, every member of the crew should understand how to "spike" or scull the shell to keep the bow pointed down the course. We strongly urge coxswains, crews and scullers to study this video:

Strict Enforcement of Rules of Racing

MCI is a US Rowing sanctioned regatta. As such, all participants are responsible for knowing and complying with the Rules of Rowing.

MCI operates on a tight schedule with all events and flights on 4 minute centers, except for 1x which run on 5 minute centers. For this reason it is particularly important that rowers and coxswains adhere to the following:

2-301 Reporting to the Start (a) Each Crew is responsible for being attached to its starting station and ready to race two minutes before the Scheduled Time of the Race, whether or not announcements have been made by the Starter. If racing is delayed, Crews shall be responsible for being within voice range of the Starter and in a position to respond to instructions. (b) A Crew that is not attached to its starting station at least two minutes before the Scheduled Time of the Race may be assessed a warning (Rule 2-602(b), “Types of Penalties”) by the Starter. A Crew that is not attached to its starting station by the Scheduled Time of the Race may be excluded by the Starter. If racing is delayed, the Starter may announce a new racing time, which shall have the same effect as the original Scheduled Time for purposes of this rule.

Extreme Weather Planning

The Regatta Committee has taken steps to insure MCI can operate safely under high temperature conditions.

This includes many more volunteers and officials to avoid anyone working in an exposed position for an unreasonable length of time. We do not anticipate cancelling for reason of extreme temperatures.

Adaptive Rowing Events

We will continue holding and expanding adaptive rowing events this year! Please let us know of your potential interest in these events. Adaptive events are schedule to provide maximum dock time for participants and minimum traffic on the river. Handicap parking is available near our dock and restrooms which are wheelchair accessible.
