Rules: 

Registration closes Jun 4, 2023. This regatta also serves as the rowing event for the State Games of Michigan. You do not need to be a resident of Michigan to take part in this regatta. Registration is open to all clubs and individuals. Affiliation to a rowing club is not required. All registrations must be completed through Regatta Central. Entries must be paid online at the time of registration.  Please indicate the expected finish of multiple entries in an event by designating A, B, and C boats etc. There is no fee cap. Rowing organizations will be billed for all races entered. Entries may be scratched without penalty until Sunday June 4. After the registration deadline, no refunds will be given for entries that are scratched. 

WAIVERS: Each rower must complete the Meijer State Games of Michigan waiver online before race day. Please make sure you have verified that all your athletes have signed the waiver. No “hard-copy” waivers will be accepted.

LIGHTWEIGHT AND COXSWAIN WEIGH-INS: There will be no weigh-ins for lightweight rowers or coxswains, but the LOC staff and referees reserve the right to weigh any rower entered in a lightweight event.

The Grand Regatta is open to all rowers on a first come, first served basis. The maximum number of entries that will be accepted is capped for each event. No event will have more than 2 flights (12 entries). Once an event is closed, a waiting list will be set and we will do our best to accept all entries. All events are capped to help control the schedule, with a maximum of 3 entries per event per club. Up to 3 waitlist entries may be accepted for each club, which will be filled after the regular entry deadline as available, according to order of submission. We will accommodate as many waitlist entries as possible.

Events must have at least two entries to run. Events with more than 6 or 7 entries will be run as flights and the fastest three times from all flights awarded medals.

Hot seating (of equipment or personnel) will be permitted, assuming the crew assume all risk of missing an event. We recommend at least 30 minutes between events for hot seating to take place. Please give notice to the Dock Master when leaving the dock that your boat requires hotseat access after its race. The Dock Master has final say on all hot seating decisions.

AWARDS: Medals will be awarded as results are finalized. Medals will be awarded to first, second, and third place for all races. There will be no heats or finals. Some events have multiple flights. The fastest times from all flights in an event will determine the order of placement. Medals may be picked up at the Headquarters tent. Results will be posted at this location, as well. Note that medals will not be mailed to winners. All medals must be picked up prior to teams departing the regatta venue.

Eligibility: 

1) Junior: A competitor who in the current calendar year does not attain the age of 19, or who is and has been continuously enrolled in secondary school as a full-time student seeking a diploma. A competitor thus ceases to be a Junior after December 31 of the year of his or her 18th birthday, or of the year in which he or she completes the 12th grade of secondary school, having been a full time student, whichever is later.

2) Open: Open to all age categories.

3) Masters: Individuals who have attained the age of 21, during the current calendar year. A competitor's age is determined as of December 31 of the current calendar year. The age of a crew is determined by the average of the crew rounded down to the highest contained integer. The Coxswain's age shall not be counted. Each member of the crew, with the exception of the coxswain, must be within the Masters' age limitations. Masters registration forms that are missing date of birth will default to 21 years, the youngest possible Masters age.

4) Mixed: At least half of the rowers in the boat must be female. For example, in the mixed eight events, you can have 5 women and 3 men, but you cannot have 5 men and 3 women.

5) Novice: Learned to row in the calendar year 2022; Individuals who took a rowing class in a previous year but  did not race at more than one regatta or row regularly for more than 2 months in that year may also be considered Novice.

6) Recreational: Rowers in these events should be novice rowers or rowers who row for fun and occasionally race, but have no intention of competing at Masters Nationals or other highly competitive regattas. Typically, these rowers practice no more than two times a week.

HANDICAPPING EVENTS: All events will be handicapped based on USRowing rules, unless all entries in an event are in the same age category.
