A few notes about the upcoming regatta:
Location
The regatta is at Cadboro Bay (Gyro Park). This is a different location than the last three years. Link here: Cadboro Bay Beach.
The Draw and Progression
- The only official seeding was for the winners from last year.
- Events with only one entry have been combined with other events. JW1x is racing with MstW1x, JM2x is racing with MstM2x.
- As there are more than 16 entries in the W1x, there is a need for a 2nd Time Trial in the progression.
- The order of events has been adjusted slightly to allow for more rest for athletes who are racing multiple rounds. There are also small gaps and longer breaks throughout the day.
Time Trial Format Change
- The Saturday time trials for solos will be processional. That means following the practice flow pattern. Athletes start in lane 2, run around beach flag, slalom out, 90 degree turn at lane 2 turning buoy, row across top of course, 90 degree turn at lane 1 turning buoy, row straight back, run around beach flag to finish.
- The gap will be 3:30 between starts to allow for enough time for athletes to get their boat ready.
- This format will be discussed in the 7:00 athlete/coach meeting at the beach.
Masters’ Handicapping
- The handicap values are 0.56 of the Garrett system values to allow for 500m row + run.
- For masters’ time trials, the handicap will be applied after the race and results will reflect adjusted time.
- For head to head masters’ races, the handicap will be applied to the start of the race, for gaps of 2 seconds or more. The race will have two starts. The athlete with the handicap will start first and the other athlete will be started after the appropriate gap.
- This will be discussed in the 7:00 athlete/coach meeting at the beach.
Lane Selection
- After the first round of racing, and no later than 10 minutes before the first race in the following round, all crews in that round shall indicate their preferred lane to the umpire at control commission.
- A crew’s selection for the quarterfinal will also apply for the semifinal and final rounds.
- A crew that progresses directly from round 1 to round 3 will have priority of lane choice. In other cases, the crew with the faster time will have priority.
- This will be discussed in the 7:00 athlete/coach meeting.
Practice Sign Up
The only opportunity for practice and to check your foot stretcher location is at the Friday afternoon practice. Sign up for a practice slot HERE.
Weather
Currently it looks as though there could be some rain and a significant onshore wind on Saturday morning. Be prepared for all conditions. Bring dry change(s) of clothes, as well as sun protection for later in the day. The conditions will be discussed at the 7:00am athlete/coach meeting each day.
