Occoquan Memorial Sprints
- Hosted By: Occoquan Boat Club
Thank you for your interest in attending the 2023 edition of the Occoquan Memorial Sprints (OMS) on Sunday, July 9th at Sandy Run Regional Park. The OMS regatta is a charity event with all proceeds going towards the Julia Shew Scholarship Fund. Over the years this fund has awarded over $98,500 to several hundred deserving rowers/coxes that practice on the Occoquan Reservoir. If you are unable to participate in this years regatta and would like to be a part of this worthwhile endeavor, please consider making a donation to the fund. https://www.regattacentral.com/clubs/?org_id=338
The timeframe/race schedule for OMS-23 will be similar to past years: an optional coxswain’s meeting at 7AM, start time for the first race at 8AM and the finish time likely between 2 and 3 PM. The schedule is designed to allow people to race multiple times if they so chose with adequate time for relaxed logistics. OMS has always tried to avoid handicapping events and will continue to group entries in a way to minimize it. In order for an event to be held there must be a minimum of two entries before the registration closes on July 2nd. All races will have one winner even if there are multiple age groups in the race. US Rowing age handicap standards will be used, so it is essential that Masters ages be complete w/entries. While this year’s race sheet will depend on entries, a sample race sheet from 2022 is provided for your planning purposes and illustrates how races have been grouped (see under Heat Sheet/Draw).
ALL races will be 1000 meters. The start platform and start tower will be used on the fully buoyed 6 lane course. Like last year, the races will be officiated by local coaches who are familiar with the site and the timing/results will be furnished by RONIN. The course will be available for practice the day before OMS with the parking lots open for trailers/cartoppers as well until 8PM when the park is locked.
Our usage fee to the park is based on the number of rowing participants so we ask that you accurately enter your lineup and provide a participant count for your team.
We hope your rowing is going well and look forward to your attendance at OMS-23. If you have questions, please send them to [email protected].
