Due to unfortunate circumstances the 2011 Marathon Rowing Championships is going to be cancelled. The City of Natchitoches is in the midst of one of the worst droughts it has seen in years. The water in Cane River Lake has reached such a dangerous level that the City has closed it to all boat traffic. As of today, our dock is more than 6 feet below the sea wall on Front Street. According to city officials, we need about 48 inches of rain before November 12th to be able to host the regatta. Due to these conditions and time running out quickly, we cannot safely hold the marathon this year. We are making this decision as early as possible so competitors and teams can rearrange travel plans. We are extremely sorry for any inconvenience that this unfortunate situation creates. We are thankful for the excellent loyalty that our returning competitors bring and guarantee to come back even better next year. Check out Photos below.
