14th Head of the James

  • Hosted By: James River Rowers

Welcome to the 14th annual Head of the James Regatta

Note: Registration has now closed. Stay tuned for updates and schedules as the week progresses, and we'll see you on Saturday!

We invite you to join scholastic teams and junior clubs from throughout Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region to compete on the majestic 3 mile (4800m) James River head race course. Our gorgeous James River in Richmond was recently named as one of the world's 'Top 10 riverways to row down before you die'. The best part - paved parking and spectator admission are both absolutely FREE to keep your total event costs low!

The Head of the James Regatta is located at Robious Landing Park, 3800 James River Road, Midlothian, Virginia in northern Chesterfield County on the south bank of the James River. The incredible 101-acre park is adjacent to James River High School, and only 10 miles from downtown Richmond, Virginia. The site includes easy parking for team trailers, lots of shade trees for team tents, picnic shelters, permanent modern restrooms, a children's playground, and nearly 3 miles of nature trails in addition to close access to the James River. We'll have Starbucks coffee, fresh donuts and real Chick-fil-a sandwiches onsite, plus other snacks, drinks and goodies . Another popular feature: our park does allow cooking with gas grills!!

Also, don't forget to save the date for our Spring Sprint race: 15th James River Sprints is TBD in April 2020! Tentative dates are either 4/4 or 4/18, and we'd love your feedback ASAP!
