Gator Head Regatta

  • Hosted By: Gainesville Area Rowing, Inc.
  • 2016 Registered Regatta

We are very excitedto be hosting this year's Gator Head right here at Newnans Lake and lookforward to providing a good course that is also Novice friendly. The 7,500 acre lake that borders East Gainesville is surrounded by stately cypress treesdraped in Spanish moss, Sabal palms, and other native trees and plants.Wildlife watching along its shores includeswading birds and nesting bald eagles and osprey.(Because of the abundant wildlife in thearea, we strongly emphasize that it would be best to leave dogs at home forthis event.Insect repellent is alsorecommended).Home to both GainesvilleArea Rowing and Florida Crew, the University of Florida's rowing club, the lake is a great spot for canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and biking.Bicycles are recommended to ease the 1.5 milecommute from the boat launching area to the spectator area at Palm Point.
