JOB DESCRIPTIONS FOR REGATTA VOLUNTEERS

Volunteer Check-in Tent (Land Operations):  Greet volunteers as they arrive and direct them to their correct working locations.  Hand out volunteer T-Shirts to those authorized to wear one (strict controls must be kept on the t-shirt inventory).  Assist visitor greeters as available.  For assistance, contact the Land Operations Volunteer Leader or the Primary Volunteer Coordinator.

Dock Hands~Launch and Recovery (Water Operations):  This is a critical part of the overall regatta operation and volunteers should have previous experience.  Assist rowing teams (and shells) in and out of the water.  Volunteers must be extremely attentive to the instructions of the Dock Master and referee.  For assistance, contact the Dock Master or the Water Operations Volunteer Leader.

Stake Boat Holders (Water Operations):  This important task requires previous experience and volunteers should have some regatta operation knowledge.  Listen and take instructions from the Starting Line Volunteer Leader and referee.  It is important for you to maintain silence in this area of the venue.  Watch for accidents or volunteers who may fall off the floating docks.  Coordinate proper staffing and transportation of the stake boat area with volunteers.  For assistance, contact the Start Line Volunteer Leader or Water Operations Volunteer Leader.

Course Marshal~Friday Rowing Practice (Water Operations): Launch Boat drivers need to be experienced in regatta water operations—no exceptions.  Safe operation of the power boat is critical.   You will maintaining race course safety and keep boats following the regatta traffic pattern.  In the event of a capsized boat, you will notify officials and assist the safety launch.  Check with the Power Boar Squadron Leader for more guidance and any other special instructions.

Finish Line (Water Operations):  The finish line referee will provide instructions.  Tasks include manning the finish line flag, running stop watches, recording bow number finish order, and recording finish times.  It is important that the volunteers be present for the entire shift to maintain continuity and minimize training time.

Awards Dock Hands (Water Operations):  Assist rowing teams in and out of the boats to receive awards.  Volunteers must be extremely attentive to the instructions of the Dock Master and referee as other races go by the awards dock.
