Head of The Estuary

October 20, 2013

  1. All entries will be done on Regatta Central and all payments must be made before racing occurs.
  2. Open events will include Masters, but we will not take into account handicaps.  We will award medals in all events.
  3. Safety is our first priority.  The Estuary is a navigable waterway, watch for floating objects and other traffic.
  4. Follow the rules of the race course, they are there for your safety.  During the race you will either launch at Tidewater or JLAC and everyone will warm-up toward the Port of Oakland.  On the warm-up please be sure to be aware of all traffic coming through the bridges and stay to the right.
  5. Arrive at the starting Line 5 minutes before your race and arrange yourselves in order for the start
  6. The Start. The marshal will have you spin your boats and line up in numerical order.  Please listen to the marshal’s in the launch.  follow the instructions of the call-up boat and the starter.  Starts will be at 10 to 15 second intervals.  If you arrive at the start-line after the last boat in your race has departed, you will be allowed to row.
  7. The course:  There will be buoys at the starting line and the finish.   Please continue racing through the park street bridge after you hear the beep.  Also, please don’t stop between the bridges, but continue rowing through the bridges at least with part of your boat.
  8. Cautions:
    1. Sunken boat just as you enter the narrows, please keep the yellow hazard buoy on your right.
    2. Marina’s…don’t get too close, watch for boats coming out.  They will sound their horns as they exit.
  9. The finish Line: Boats will be timed as they cross the finish line just before the green bridge (park st.)  Make sure you finish close to the Alameda Side so we can read your numbers, and make sure you get a time.

Returning to the docks:  After rowing through the finish line, Please continue through the bridges if going back to Tidewater and pass the dock, before looping back and landing.  It is a tricky dock, so coaches catch your crews.
