The NY State Scholastic Championships has been held on Fish Creek, in Saratoga, since 1999.  Previously, it was hosted at Delta Lake State Park (Utica area).  The event has grown over the years.  In 1998, there were 17 teams and 91 entries.  To date, 93 teams have now raced at "States", and the list continues to grow.  The NYS Championships is one of the largest sprint races in the US, with over 600 crews racing.

It is important to remember, and thank, the early visionaries who, 20+ years ago, helped create the initial system that allowed HS & Club teams, the chance to race side-by-side, and spur this amazing growth without the extra politics:  Among others, Larry Laszlo (Liverpool), Matt Hopkins (Niskayuna & Augustine Classical Academy), Tom Boyer (Nardin), Roggi Rogonovicz (Cascadilla BC), and Bruce Soden (USRA Judge Referee).  There are many names to add to this list, but among those early years, these coaches carried the load for the rest of us.
