Change to the SRAA® Lightweight Policy

USRowing has instituted a Junior Lightweight Compliance Program beginning this 2020 regatta season. The Scholastic Rowing Association of America® Regatta is a USRowing Registered Regatta and is required to follow the new protocol. Due to the implementation of this program, the SRAA® will not require any additional lightweight certification for our regatta as we have for the past 10 years. The only lightweight athletes that will be allowed to compete at our regatta must be registered with USRowing in accordance with their protocol.

This new protocol requires parents and coaches to take immediate action in order to have their junior lightweight athletes registered for 2020 rowing season. The USRowing Lightweight Policy is explained in full detail on their website, https://usrowing.org/sports/2019/10/18/usrowing-junior-lightweight-compliance-program-protocol.aspx.

Please be aware that the window for registering junior lightweight athletes opened on January 15th and will close on March 15th.  The athletes are required to have an appointment with their healthcare provider, to have the lightweight clearance forms signed, to be registered on Regatta Central, and have all of the signed forms mailed to USRowing by the March 15th deadline. This is a firm deadline and there will be no exceptions. Any issues with the USRowing Junior Lightweight Compliance Program should be addresses to Chris Chase, [email protected].

The SRAA® will not be able to address any lightweight registration issues. Only those athletes with confirmed registration with USRowing will be able to compete as a lightweight at the SRAA® Regatta.
