After attending the Green Mountain Head in Putney, Vermont in 1987, the organizers decided that the Northwest deserved its own sculling regatta.  The first event was run on Halloween 1987, with 3 pairs.  Due to that first date, the costume event was born.  The winner of the event gets to take home, and add to, the coveted Best of Breed trophy. We have had every costume from crossdressing french maids to plumbers who took their coffee break before the finish, to a canoe entry that actually bribed the judges with hot dogs they grilled during the race.
