The America Rows Diversity Invitational was created to showcase and demonstrate the viability of multicultural success in rowing. When ethnically underrepresented crews are seen racing these athletes become positive role models that other under-represented populations can emulate. 

The event is open to all crews, but we are inviting and encouraging America Rows and other community outreach programs to come out and compete. America Rows programs that already accepted the invite include crews from Reach High Baltimore, Phoenix Rowing Club and the Chicago Training Center.

Frequently asked questions about the USRowing Diversity Invitational

1.   When and where is the USRowing Diversity Invitational?   Friday August 24, there will be activities for the youth rowers. Saturday August 25 racing begins. The event will be held at the Genesee Waterways  Center in Rochester, NY

2. How can our program get invited? If you are a registered affiliate of America Rows or a known community outreach program you will be invited.

3. If we are not invited can we still register a boat to row? Yes the event is open to all rowers regardless of age, abilities, gender or sexual orientation. We hope that the crews make an attempt to create a diverse boat. Ex Four youth who are ethnically underrepresented in rowing and four traditional master rowers in an 8+

4.  How much are the race fees?  We want to provide access for all to row so there will be no race fees.  We will accept donations for America Rows

5.   We would love for some of our middle school rowers to gain race experience will there be a middle school event?  Yes there will be a mixed middle school 8+ and a mix and match 500m dash

6.   Will there be opportunities to visit local colleges? Yes on Friday August 24, 2012 there are two college tours scheduled for University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology.  Times TBA

7.  Will there be Master’s events.  Yes there will be plenty of opportunities for Master’s rowers to race. There will be Mixed Masters 8+, 4+ 2x and 4x
