The Head of the Merrimack is a 4 mile head race from the powerlines north of the Essex Rowing docks to Riverside Park in Methuen on the Merrimack River. The Head of the Merrimack attracts rowers of all ages and skill levels and is run entirely by Essex Rowing staff and volunteers. Essex Rowing's goal by hosting this regatta is to provide a high quality, early season competition for the fall season while bringing awareness to rowing on the Merrimack River to Methuen and its surrounding communities. In 2010 we hosted our first event and within the next 6 years we hope to build the race into a major event in the region to compliment the Textile River Regatta held the following weekend in Lowell, MA.
