17th Annual Halifax Summer Regatta

  • Hosted By: Halifax Rowing Association, Inc.
  • 2016 Registered Regatta

Thank you to everyone who braved the heat and the water at Halifax this weekend.  It was another record year for entries, and plans are already in place to make next year safer, more enjoyable for the spectators (working on jumbotron, anyone with audio/visual experience please give me a call...) and more exciting--all points trophy for youth and masters!

We look forward to seeing everyone next year, and hope that you had a great summer day in Daytona Beach.

Heat sheet will be out as soon as humanly possibly Thursday morning.  For the most part the order of events will stay the same.

News from Halifax!

There are a couple of important things to know before you come over to Daytona...

    1)  If you check out the map below, there will be wet launching and recovery from the beaches, but please NO 8+s launching from the beach.

    2)  Be aware that there may be oyster shells--you must wear some kind of water footwear, or you will risk getting a cut.  Coxes, please do not have the rowers get out of the boat unless you are parallel to the beach.  It does drop off, and it will get mucky.  Just so you know!

    3)  There will be a barbque vender with grilled chicken, etc next to the boathouse, at very reasonable prices, and the Rita's Italian Ice guy will be here again as well.

    4)  Regatta t-shirts and tanks will be available on a first come first served basis, $20 for t's and $15 for a tank.  They will be at the registration tent.

    5)  We will have potties and a sink behind the boathouse.  There are showers available in the boathouse, and there are also additional restrooms along the sidewalk behind the boathouse.  Plenty of potty possibilities!

    6)  Trailers:  If you look at the picture below, the trailers are the white rectangles.

     7)  We are attempting to keep an area clear so that boats may launch along the sidewalk in front of the boathouse, and recover along the beach.  When you are unloading your trailers, please be aware of the traffic pattern so that the launch and recovery areas can be kept clear.

    8)  There is room on the grass to the north of the dock to put oars.  Please do not put them on the grass to the south of the dock in the recovery area, or immediately to the north.

    9)  The coach/cox/referee meeting will be at 6:45.  Please have coxes and one representative from your club at the meeting.

    10)  The schedule is very full, and we will try to stay on time throughout the day.  The referees are primed to get the boats off the starting line and underway on time, so please do not be late to the start.  Let me know if you have a hot seating issue with a boat or a rower(s).  I will attempt to get the heat sheet posted by Wednesday evening, please cross your fingers for me!
