Albany Rowing Center (ARC) was founded in 1985 as the Organization of Adirondack Rowers and Scullers (OARS) teaching rowers the fundamentals of sweep rowing and sculling.

ARC is a not-for-profit organization that fosters interest in, and provides opportunity for, rowing in New York's Capital District.  The club offers programs for adults, as well as high school and middle school students.  Programs include competitive, noncompetitive, and recreational rowing, Adult Learn to Row,  junior introductory and developmental rowing camps.

Each year, in addition to hosting the Head of the Hudson, ARC celebrates National Learn to Row Day and conducts a Community Rowing Challenge.

The year 2006 marks the twentieth anniversary of the Head of the Hudson Regatta.
