GENERAL RULES

Age Restrictions for Competition

Junior participants (Age 14-18) must have been born on or after January 1, 1998, and not be in a collegiate program as of race day. Youth event participants (Age 11-14) must have been born on or after January 1, 2002, and before January 1, 2005. For all other events with an age restriction, age is as of race day. No one under the age of 11 may row in NWErgomania.

Finals Only

NWErgomania is run as finals-only in all solo and team events; you will race only once per event entered. In juniors categories with many participants, athletes will be seeded into heats based upon erg scores submitted during registration, so that each rower will compete against other rowers of comparable results. However, the best time will win each event, regardless of what heat the athlete(s) row in.

Multiple Events Per Flight

Although several age and weight categories may race at the same time, this will not affect the awarding of prizes. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each event category.

Equipment

The Concept 2 Model D ergometer will be used. You may select your own damper setting (drag factor), but the setting may not be changed during the race. Ergometers are bought new for the event and are available for sale for $895 upon completion of NWErgomania 2016.

Awards

Medals will be awarded to the top finisher of each division; ribbons awarded to second and third place finishers of each division.

C.R.A.S.H.-B Qualifying Times

As an official satellite regatta of the C.R.A.S.H.–B.s, Concept2 will award up to four NWErgomania competitors with airfare to Boston to compete at the C.R.A.S.H.-B. Sprints Sunday, February 28, 2016.  The selected athletes must meet the qualifying time standard for their event as posted at http://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/racing/world-irc/qualifying-times. In the event that more than four competitors meet the time standard for their event, the race director reserves the right to select those receiving the travel award.

EVENT-SPECIFIC RULES

Lightweight Events

If you enter the lightweight division of an event, you will be eligible to win a prize only as a lightweight.  Lightweights may race in heats with open weight rowers.  This will not affect the awarding of prizes.

Lightweights must weigh-in on race day. All competitors entered in a lightweight division of any event must weigh in on race day during the one-hour window beginning two hours before their assigned race time and ending one hour before their race time. (EG: If you are scheduled to race at 12:00 p.m., you must weigh in between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.).

The weigh-in station will open at 7:00 am and close one hour prior to the last lightweight event.  Any competitor failing to weigh in or make weight may race in his/her originally seeded time slot, but the score will count in the OPENWEIGHT division of that event.

Weight limit for Rowers:

  • Men: 165 pounds or less
  • Women: 135 pounds or less

Masters Team Challenge

The masters team event will be handicapped according to the average age of the team. In the team event, masters athletes may include athletes as young as 21 years of age, as long as they are not currently competing in collegiate or high performance programs. A minimum of two teams must be entered in the Team Challenge events to avoid cancellation.
