Schuylkill Navy Partners with Nielsen-Kellerman and RegattaCentral to Launch Free  NK Live LiNK Race Streaming at Independence Day Regatta

Spectators will Experience a New Dimension in Race Viewing with Crews Streaming Data in Real Time

PHILADELPHIA, PA – JUNE 12, 2018 -- The Schuylkill Navy, along with Regatta Central and Nielsen-Kellerman Company, will debut a completely new worldwide viewing experience for this year’s Independence Day Regatta happening June 29 thru July 1 in Fairmount Park on the Schuylkill River above the city’s popular rowing center, Boathouse Row.

With the launch of Nielsen-Kellerman’s innovative NK Live LiNKTM digital platform, crews at the IDR will be able to stream performance data from their shell during all three days of racing and have it displayed in real time on a live internet feed.  Michael Naughton, NK’s Director of Product Management, outlines the basic requirements.  “All a crew needs to take part is a SpeedCoach GPS 2 with the latest firmware and a mobile phone that is paired for streaming using Live LiNK’s free app.  That’s it,” explains Naughton. “We’ll even provide crews with a free drybag for your phone, so there’s nothing to worry about.”

Viewers can watch the stream live at link.nksports.com whether they are at the race course in Philadelphia, or anywhere else in the world. The more crews streaming, the more fun and interesting the experience will be for spectators and coaches.

Clete Graham, long serving Independence Day Regatta director, welcomed the opportunity to let people experience the Independence Day Regatta in a new, augmented format. “When NK came and showed us what the technology would allow spectators to see, we jumped at the chance to be first,” said Graham.   “Now we’d like to maximize the number of entrants streaming on race day so we can really show the power of crowd-sourced race viewing.”

RegattaCentral’s Steve Lopez: “As long-term partners with the Schuylkill Navy it made sense for us to collaborate with NK to support this complementary digital platform.  We’re excited to help promote this feature at the IDR to create the richest regatta immersion possible.”
