The Grand Regatta (State Games of Michigan)

The course is 1000 meters long for all events and accommodates 6 lanes of racing (7 in a pinch for small boats). It will be buoyed on the perimeter at the start, finish, 250m, 500m, and 750m marks.

OVERALL RACING SCHEDULE

Masters and Open races will be run first in the morning, beginning at 7:45 AM, followed by Junior races, beginning at 11:00 AM. There will be a coaches, coxswains, and scullers meeting at 7:00 AM and 10:00 AM. The content of both meetings will be the same.

Races will be run on 6 minute centers. Competitors are responsible for allowing sufficient time to race in one event, land, re-queue, and launch in time for an additional event. 

ENTRIES

Entries must be submitted on Regatta Central by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, June 19. Late entries after this deadline are at the discression of the regatta director and will only be accepted if they do not create additional flights. Late entries will be subject to a $5 per seat late entry fee, in excess of the $800 fee cap, when applicable.

This regatta also serves as the rowing event for the State Games of America. You do not need to be a resident of Michigan to take part in this regatta.

All events are capped to help control the schedule, with a maximum of 3 entries per event per club. Up to 3 waitlist entries may be accepted for each club, which will be filled after the regular entry deadline as available, according to order of submission. We will accomodate as many waitlist entries as possible.

Events must have at least two entries to run. Events with more than 6 or 7 entries will be run as flights and the fastest three times from all flights awarded medals.

BOW MARKERS and EQUIPMENT SPECS

Please bring your own bow markers. We will have a few available on an as needed basis. Borrowed bow markers must be returned at the conclusion of racing. A $10.00 charge will be assessed if the bow markers are not returned.

All shells must have bow clips to race. All shells must be equipped with a bow ball. Each set of shoes within the shell must be equipped with properly-secured heel tie-downs. Allow time for regatta officials to inspect shells upon the approach to the launch dock.

SAFETY

All crews must follow the instructions of the official Aligner upon reaching the starting line area. The Marshal tracks crew arrivals and pre-aligns boats for each race. A floating start is used and there are no lane markers. Be alert!!!

Teams may arrive on Friday to drop off equipment. However, no practice will be allowed on the course on Friday.

Equipment may be stored at the boathouse on Friday evening.The boathouse is located behind a locked gate, but there will not be overnight security. Storage of equipment is at your own risk.. The boathouse is not known to be an area of crime or vandalism. Even so, we cannot guarantee the safety of any items left in the park... exercise caution and common sense! No public overnight camping is allowed on the boathouse grounds.

HOT SEATING

Hot-seating of athletes and/or boats is generally discouraged. The Regatta Committee accepts no responsibility for missed start times and will issue no refunds on that basis.

DECORUM

We do not require uniforms although request all rowers in a crew to dress consistently. Athletes, coaches, and spectators are expected to minimize foul language and conduct unbecoming of the sport of rowing while at the regatta. While shell-to-shell communication is allowed, it is expected to remain friendly. Unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of athletes, coaches, and spectators, including insults, taunts, trash talk, and foul language will not be tolerated and may result in the disqualification of the offending crew, squad, or club.

REFUNDS

The regatta committee cannot refund scratches communicated to the regatta beyond the regular race entry deadline.
