Let's Get Ready to YETI!

Community Rowing Inc. will host YETI 2021 as a virtual event in May 2021. The event, traditionally held at the Reggie Lewis Center for Boston Public School middle schoolers, will have participation from kids in rowing programs like RowBoston, Philadelphia City Rowing, and Mary Lyon Middle School. High school athletes will race 1000 meter erg race and middle school students & novice athletes will race a 500m race. All programs will be holding the event at their site and sharing results virtually. This will conclude the racing season for Philadelphia middle schoolers & novices and begin racing opportunities for RowBoston novice! Good luck to all rowers!

The YETI., Youth Erg Trials International, began as the Boston Youth Indoor Rowing Championships at Community Rowing, Inc. in 2012 with 32 competitors from CRI's middle school indoor rowing program in the Boston Public Schools.  Since then, the BPS schools program has grown from just over 100 participants in year one, and is on track to teach rowing to over 5,000 students by the end of the 2017 school year.

In 2017, the event moved locations from the Harry Parker Boathouse to the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center to accommodate a boom of new participants. The first annual YETI hosted 885 students from grades 5th-12th, including adaptive and inclusion events. The 2018 YETI was held with great success  at the Reggie Lewis Center on Friday, April 6th, 2018 to host over 1,000 students for relay races. The event hosted students from the city of Boston, the Greater Boston area, and Connecticut!

In 2019, the YETI expanded to 1300 kids participating in the competition at the Reggie Lewis Center. The event hosted schools that participate in the Let's Row Boston program from Boston Public Schools, and the Growth Middle School program featuring Pembroke, Saugus, Newton, and Belmont. Kids from grades 4th-8th competed in 4-person relay races in the fieldhouse with live results displayed on the jumbotron. Results were hosted by HereNow Timing in conjunction with the Concept2's ErgRace software. Lunch was provided at no cost by Fresh Foods Generation, owned & operated by CRI's G-Row alumnus, Cassandria Campbell.
