John Ferriss Lanier Sprints Regatta

  • Hosted By: Lake Lanier Rowing Club
  • USRowing Sanctioned Regatta

The John Ferris Lanier Sprints Regatta will be held on the weekend in March that was, for many years, the date of the John Hunter Regatta.  When that regatta was cancelled, LLRC decided to replace it with a one-day collegiate event named after longtime member, former President, and former Executive Director of the Lake Lanier Rowing Club John Ferriss.

John has over 50 years of coaching experience beginning at T.C. Williams H.S. in Alexandria, VA, and continuing as lightweight rowing coach at Cornell University from 1984 to 1998. During those years, his crews were consistent finalists at national championship regattas, won several times, and competed in the Henley Regatta in England.

As a competitor, John won two IRA Championships, competed on the 1967 National Team, and has regularly competed in Masters rowing events.

John was one of the early developers of the USRowing coach education program, has edited two books, and has produced three video tapes on rowing.  John is a pillar of the rowing community and we are pleased to hold this regatta in his honor.
