While on the water, keep all yellow separation buoys on your port side or you will be "excluded" from the race (meaning "disqualified") - they are there to protect you from harm. There are red and green navigation channel markers on the course. You can pass those on either port of starboard. Just don't hit them. 

These are the approximate locations of the major Race buoys designed to keep you from encountering oncoming traffic. You must pass all large yellow bouys on your port side.
