Classifications

Junior Events:

A competitor who in the current calendar year does not attain the age of 19, or who is currently, and has been continuously, enrolled in secondary school as a full-time student seeking a diploma.

  • Varsity - Competitors are all currently enrolled in a high school or secondary school
  • JV -  Competitors are enrolled as high school juniors or lower, OR if all 3 of the following conditions are met:
    1. A team may enter a JV team boat that includes seniors, if those teams have also entered a Varsity boat in the corresponding event.
    2. No more than half of any JV boat lineup can be comprised of seniors (not including the coxswain)
    3. It is understood that the Varsity boat entered is faster than the JV entry.
  • Freshman/Novice - Competitors must be in their first season of competitive rowing OR in grade 9 or lower

 

Dual Style Racing

  • The Buffalo River is a relatively narrow waterway
  • Petite and Grand Final seeding will be determined by time trial results
  • All finals will proceed as a 2 boat race

 

Finals

  • Events with 4 or more entries - Time Trial, Petite Final (3rd and 4th from time trial) and Grand Final (1st and 2nd from time trial)
  • Events with 3 entries - Time Trial, Grand Final (1st and 2nd from time trials)
  • Events with 2 entries - Straight to Grand Final
  • Events with 1 entry - Time Trial

 

Entry/athlete caps

  • Athletes are limited to participating in only 2 events

  • First place will be awarded medals
